Subsurface Flow Phytoremediation Using Barley Plants for Water Recovery from Kerosene-Contaminated Water: Effect of Kerosene Concentration and Removal Kinetics
نویسندگان
چکیده
A phytoremediation experiment was carried out with kerosene as a model for total petroleum hydrocarbons. constructed wetland of barley exposed to pollutants at varying concentrations (1, 2, and 3% v/v) in subsurface flow (SSF) system. After period 42 days exposure, it found that the average ability eliminate ranged from 56.5% 61.2%, highest removal obtained concentration 1% v/v. The analysis initial allowed kinetics be fitted Grau model, which closer than zero order, first or second order kinetic models. experimental study showed plant designed system would have great potential reclamation kerosene-contaminated water.

Investigating the efficiency of surface flow constructed wetlands by using Cyperus alternifolius plants for nitrate removal from water
Background and Objective: Synthetic wetlands are engineering systems that use natural plants, soils and organisms to purify municipal polluted water and remove nitrate. Materials and Methods: In this study, three systems were considerd as soil culture, three systems as plant cultivation on floating plates and three other systems without plant and porous bed as. The experiments were done three ...
متن کاملinvestigation of mercaptan removal from Kerosene using passive mixing tools: Experimental study and CFD modeling
Abstract In this work, the role of appropriate mixing for mercaptan removal from Kerosene using caustic soda has been investigated in the pilot scale. Static mixer at different condition has been used as a passive mixing tool to achieve proper mixing and consequently high performance of mercaptan removal. Two lengths of static mixer including 20 and 40 cm as well as two pitches 1 and 3 m...
متن کاملEthanol-Kerosene Blends: Fuel Option for Kerosene Wick Stove
In order to solve energy crisis, the search for alternative fuel is extensively important. Alternative fuels selected should be renewable, sustainable and eco-friendly. In India, kerosene is also used as a fuel in cooking stove. Kerosene contains impurities like sulphur, aromatics and hydrocarbons, which causes environmental degradation. In this experimental investigation, blends of ethanol and...
متن کاملKerosene Poisoning in Children.
The advisability or otherwise of carrying out routine gastric lavage in cases of kerosene poisoning is still much debated (Olstad and Lord, 1952; Gerarde, 1959; Capel and Gardner, 1960; George, 1960; Ashkenazi and Berman, 1961). The most recent and comprehensive study has been carried out by the American Pediatric Association (Report of the Subcommittee on Accidental Poisoning, 1962). However, ...
متن کاملBiodegradation of Jet Fuel by Three Gram Negative Bacilli Isolated from Kerosene Contaminated Soil
Petroleum hydrocarbon contamination is a major global prevalent issue in the petroleum sector. This research focuses on evaluating biodegradation of three Gram-negative bacilli, isolated from cowpea planted soil, contaminated with kerosene. The Gram negative bacilli strains have been characterized and identified, using MicrobactTM ID24E systems for the identification of Enterobacteriaceae and c...
